Well Dressing Talk and Workshop

Well dressings are lovingly and painstakingly created by hand each year from May to September by groups of dedicated volunteers.  Natural materials such as petals, twigs and stones are intricately assembled on a clay base to create the striking designs. Mystery surrounds the exact source of this ancient tradition – believed to have been brought to the area by the Romans or the Celts.

Our well dressing talk and interactive workshop, led by local enthusiasts from the Mellor Well Dressing Group, gave an insight into the preparation, inspiration and processes involved in creating a well dressing.
