A series of workshops, talks and interactive displays held at the Roman Lakes Leisure Park in Marple, Lakes Road, SK6 7HB between September and November 2018 funded by the National Lottery, led by Rural Cultural Foundation and supported by Global Culture Connections.
The Rural Life: Rural Skills project was designed to enable participants to learn new skills whilst connecting with the local environment and community.
The project was launched with an open day in September 2018 with funding from the National Lottery and support from Global Culture Connections. Over 600 people attended and many took part in the workshops available on the day and expressed their interest in the planned future programme of activities and talks. It was clear that our local community was keen to learn more and try out new skills together.
A series of popular workshops and talks followed the open day. All activities were free of charge and included free refreshments. Our thanks to all the local crafts people who gave their time and patience to pass on their skills and knowledge.
An end of project celebration event took place on the 18th November 2018. Project participants and group leaders met together to discuss their experiences and plan for future activities.
We hope that the success of the Rural Life – Rural Skills project demonstrates the local interest in learning new skills and heritage crafts.
